How to make friends in Bristol, a city that runs on its own steam
Bristol is fiercely independent — it votes with its feet, brews its own cider and distrusts anything that smells like a chain. The paradox: a city this individual produces brilliant people and remarkably few occasions to meet them. LMTW supplies the occasion without the corporate whiff: hosted get-togethers of around six, matched by generation, interests and intent, from Wapping Wharf dinners to Gloucester Road cafés. Founding members get their first 50-credit pack free.

Bristol’s friendship scene is DIY — which is the problem
Everything social here is grassroots: the warehouse night, the harbourside pop-up, the Stokes Croft art thing your mate’s mate organised. Wonderful if you’re already plugged in; invisible if you’re not. Plenty of people arrive — for uni, for work, for the vibe — and find the city friendly at arms-length: warm in the street, booked-up by Sunday.
LMTW doesn’t try to out-DIY Bristol. It just adds the reliable version: matched crews of six, a trained Captain hosting, venues nominated by members rather than a marketing team, and a mutual-only follow-up so the good nights repeat on purpose.
Eleven get-togethers, Bristol edition
Around six people, hosted, matched to your generation (Gen Z → Baby Boomers) and human-reviewed. From-prices are what you pay the venue:
- Coffee catch-ups from £4 — Gloucester Road and Clifton, independents only, obviously
- Breakfast club from £12 — the good stuff before a harbourside wander
- Long lunches from £35 — cider-adjacent Sunday sessions, Wapping Wharf way
- Dinner parties of six from £45 — member-nominated venues, Captain-scouted
- Games nights from £18 — pub quizzes with strong opinions about the picture round
- Gigs & live music from £25 — the city’s sound, in the city’s small rooms
- Fine dining from £80 — for the crew that wants the full treatment
- Pickleball & social sport from £15 — beginner-friendly, self-deprecation encouraged
- Run clubs from £12 — harbourside and Downs loops, coffee after always
- Walks and hikes from £15 — Clifton suspension bridge to the gorge, pub finish
- Arts outings from £20 — galleries, street art walks, theatre, debrief after
How your first week works
Day one: four minutes — your generation, interests and intent. Friends first; romance welcome, never required. No card, and founding members’ first 50-credit pack is free.
Within days: matched into a Bristol crew of around six, shortlisted by algorithm and reviewed by a human before invites go out.
The night: a hosted get-together at a member-nominated venue, revealed 24 hours before. Your name’s on a seat; the agenda’s on every seat; the Captain keeps it flowing. Pay the venue directly for your own food and drink.
After: mark who you’d see again — secret unless mutual — and circles and chat take it from there. One Wapping Wharf dinner becomes a standing crew.

Common questions
Is LMTW free in Bristol?
Founding members get their first 50-credit pack free and the £20 price locked for life. Thereafter £20 buys 50 credits — about £5 an event, no subscription. You pay the venue for your own coffee, lunch or dinner, from £4 upwards.
What ages come along?
18 to 80, matched by generation — Gen Z crews, Millennial crews, Gen X and Boomer crews. You’re always among your peers.
Do I have to come alone?
Most members do, and it’s designed that way — everyone at the table started as a stranger, which makes it easy fast.
What if I’m shy?
Six people, hosted, agenda on every seat. Structured, low-pressure, zero cold-approach — Bristol-friendly in every sense.
Which parts of Bristol?
Clifton, Stokes Croft, Wapping Wharf, Gloucester Road and beyond — venues are nominated by members and scouted by Captains, so get-togethers land where members actually live (independents very welcome).
Independent city. Organised friendship.
Matched crew, hosted night, first pack free for founding members. All the DIY spirit, none of the organising.
