How to make friends over 50 — retired from work, not from life
The week has a way of going quiet. Retirement hands you time and takes the company; sometimes life changes the picture in other ways — a move, a separation, the loss of a partner — and the calendar you never asked for is suddenly yours to fill. If you’d like it fuller, we’d love to help: friendly, hosted get-togethers for the over-50s — long lunches, breakfast club, bowls, matinees — every group checked by a human before anyone walks in. Free for founding members.

The week got quiet. It doesn’t have to stay that way.
For decades, company came built in — the workplace, the school gates, the neighbours whose kids grew up with yours. Then one by one those structures step back. Nobody warns you how much of a social life was scaffolding until the scaffolding comes down.
Here’s the good news, and we see it every week: friendship after 50 works exactly like it always did. It just needs a reason to gather and the same friendly faces a few times running. We provide both — gently, and at your pace.
Daytime formats, unhurried tables
Our over-50s crews tend to prefer the daylight — so that’s what we run. Every get-together is hosted by a trained club Captain, in a public venue, with your name on a seat. From-prices are what you pay the venue:
| Get-together | From | Why members love it |
|---|---|---|
| Breakfast club | $18 | Early tables, big brekkies, the paper passed around |
| Long lunches | $45 | Three courses that roll into four o’clock — nobody checks a watch |
| Lawn bowls & social sport | $18 | Barefoot bowls and a cuppa after; beginners warmly welcome |
| Mah-jong, cards & games | $20 | Bridge, mah-jong and trivia — bragging rights included |
| Matinees & arts outings | $30 | Theatre and galleries in the afternoon, wine and a debrief after |
| Gentle bushwalks | $20 | Lookouts and waterfalls at a talking pace, bakery stop at the end |
Safety and care, before anything else
We know that trying something new at this stage of life takes a little courage, so we’ve made the practical side as careful as we can. A human reviews every group before any invitation is sent — not just an algorithm. We look for compatible company and catch anything that doesn’t feel right.
Every get-together is hosted by a trained Captain in a public venue. The table runs on first names only. You’ll never be asked for payment details to join as a founding member, and we’re always at the end of an email if you’d like to talk anything through first.
“Isn’t it too late for me?” — gently, no
The most common thing new members over 50 tell us afterwards is some version of: *I wish I’d done this sooner*. There’s no performing here, no technology to master — joining takes a few minutes in your web browser, and if you can read this page you already have everything you need.
Newly single, widowed, or simply ready for better company — you’ll be among people who understand, because many of them arrived the same way. Romance does occasionally bloom at our tables, but friendship is the point, and nobody is ever made to feel otherwise. You set your intent when you join, and it’s quietly shown on the night so there’s no guesswork.
How matching by generation works
We don’t mix generations at our get-togethers, and within the over-50s we match by age range too — a table at 54 is a different room to a table at 72, and we treat them accordingly. You tell us your interests and what you’re here for; the algorithm suggests a crew of around six; a person — not just software — approves every group.
Members vote on the venue from a directory of thousands of group-friendly spots, and after each get-together you privately note who you’d enjoy seeing again — your answer stays secret unless it’s mutual. That’s how one pleasant lunch becomes a standing breakfast club. More detail at how it works.

Common questions
I’m not good with technology — can I still join?
Yes. Everything happens in your ordinary web browser — there’s no app to download and nothing to install. Joining takes about four minutes, and if you can read this page you can manage the rest. And we’re always an email away if you’d like a hand.
How do I know it’s safe?
Three ways: a human reviews every group before any invitation is sent; every get-together is hosted by a trained Captain in a public venue; and the table runs on first names only. 18+ only, and we never ask for payment details to join as a founding member.
I’ve lost my partner / I’m on my own now. Is this for me?
Very often, yes — many of our members arrived exactly this way, and they’ll understand without you having to explain. It’s friendship first, always; there’s no pressure of any kind, and you set your own pace. When you’re ready, we’d be glad to have you.
Are there daytime get-togethers?
Plenty — breakfast club, long lunches, matinees, bowls and gentle walks are the staples of our over-50s calendar. Evenings are available too if you prefer them; you book only the get-togethers that suit you.
